my life
I'm no longer pursuing a master's degree, at least at this point in time. I am instead pursuing a master's level Geographic Information Technologies Certificate, which will benefit me in that I am learning how to make maps on computers from air photos. It's fun and intellectually stimulating, at least at this point in time, neither of which can really be said about my attempt at identifying pollen (my first thesis attempt).
Since I'm no longer a master's student, I gave up my teaching assistantship, which means I have to pay for college. But it also means that I have a lot more time to dedicate to my classes.
With my slightly more existant free time, I am making 2 scarves: I am knitting a multi-colored rainbow scarf, and crocheting a Halloween orange and black scarf. I love them both equally, as if they were my own children ;)
I worked, for a very short period of time, at a Starbucks, and discovered that I do still love the concept of working in a coffee house, but when it comes down to it, the people you work with make the job. So now I am happily unemployed, trying to rake in the student loans that I can't get because I made too much money last year, and enjoying the fact that my husband has a job he likes that pays well to boot.
Yesterday I went to my first tailgating party, and it was awesome rad, even if I only drank virgin sodas. I didn't stay for the game, but if you happened to watch the USM vs Rice game and saw a sign that said "Pinch the Hooters," know that those people are in my department. And if you saw a dude in Scout Trooper armour, he's now my friend on facebook. Yeah, good times.
And now for the sad shit: my cat is sick. She has an upper-respiratory infection, which caused conjunctivitis to screw up her left eye. I have no idea how long she's been sick, but her fever is steadily climbing. They think she might have Feline Leukemia or FIV, and if she does, I swear I'm going to go to her old Vet, and heads will roll, because the only time she could have gotten it (she was tested when we got her) was while she was being boarded there. She has to stay overnight, and it makes me sad.
In other news: I think I'm going to be Alice (in Wonderland) for Halloween. If not, then expect me to join the Mississippi Legion of the 501st, as the Sith Lord Asajj Ventress. so much for growing my hair out...

Glad to hear you're doing good! But sorry about your kitty... I hope everything turns out alright.

Sorry I didn't respond to your Katamari comment on my Facebook; usually I check FB from my cell phone, and it's painful to reply on that thing.

I'll be coming back for a visit in December, and I might even have a line on a job offer in Mobile; crossing my fingers!

Please send the hubby my regards!

Dude, to know that read it is enough, you don't have to respond to every wall post ;p
And yay for coming back in December. I got confused and thought you would be here for the reunion because I thought you said you would be at the meeting, so I ended up calling your parents house to see if you were around...I think I confused them.
Good luck on getting a job in Mobile! How are things in Japan though?

Hehe, yeah, Mom told me that you called; they sent me an email with the subject "Where ARE you????"

Japan is good. Really good, actually. My job is really fun and so un-stressful compared to the Navy, I've lost about 20 pounds (especially in my face, I'm not a cherubic double-chinned oval anymore!), and I've got some pretty good friends. All the same, I realized when I came here that it wasn't a career, but just biding my time, paying off debts, and figuring out what to do next. Max, I'll be here another 3 years. If I get this new job, it won't be forever, but from what I heard it would be higher paid, so I could get debt-free faster and head back to school (I haven't decided what for yet, though, either education or law. I'm going to try and take the LSAT this December and see how I do).

What about you guys? How is Hattiesburg? All I know so far is that you've been hangin' out with Fiser a bit and that you go to tailgate parties (!) ... How's Johnny? Are you both still going to concerts all over the place? See any of the old crowd? :-)

We don't go to many concerts anymore, though Blue Man and Skinny Puppy were fun, and Bay Fest will be fun as well, I'm sure. But Grad school sucks my life away, and Brian's job, though great, still has him gone from the house 12 hrs avg every day. Hattiesburg is okay, but given the above, I don't really see much of it. And it was my first ever tailgate party! Departmental thrown, which meant I was one of 2 people who weren't drinking out of the entire department.
Johnny's doing good. He's missing his sister right now though (who doesn't have FIV or Leukemia! Yay!), and he may not get to see her again until Monday. hopefully playing with Fiser's cats this weekend will make him happier.
And as for the old crowd...I saw Jeff at my reunion. Maybe more people will be in town for the ASMS homecoming, but I kind of doubt it.

Good luck with the LSAT and yay for getting out of debt! Totally happy for you about that. And the non-stressed stuff. very good, because now I don't have to write you anymore songs. :)

Thought I was getting that Friday off work, but now it appears I won't be.

Mm, scarves. I should learn how to be crafty like that, scarves are useful up here. Tailgating is fun, even on a "dry" campus like mine.

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. =/

I thought about being Alice for Halloween, but I think I'm going to be the Queen of Hearts instead.

Ooh, Queen of Hearts rocks. Actually, I'm thinking of carrying around a pink flamingo with me if I do go as Alice. we'll have to digitally merge our photos together and pretend we went trick-or-treating together :)

And scarves are some of the easiest things to make with yarn. They have free patterns on all balls of yarn, and in craft stores as well, so if you, amazingly, have free time and want to de-stress, I highly recommend it. For me, crocheting is easier, but I think that's just cause I learned it when I was younger :)

And kitty will be okay, because tests came back negative! so she just has a cold I guess.

That would be fun. I'm hoping the boys do a costume party closer to Halloween so I'll have somewhere to wear my costume (assuming I can find a costume store somewhere...) =)

My free time is... not usually free actually. Just time that I block out of studying so I can do something that doesn't require reading a boring book or any sort of higher intellectual thought. That and crafting takes a good bit of patience, and I think those talent points were put elsewhere.

Yay! That's good news. <3

Hey..what the hell are you up to now anyways? I mean, I know you're in a Springfield, but what school are you at, and what are you majoring in, etc. And most importantly: are you going to be at the Peanut Festival?

Missouri State, majoring in Religious Studies. I'm either going to declare a double major by adding Political Science or get a minor in jazz studies. Maybe both, depends on my level of crazy at the time.

Definitely won't be at the peanut festival, but will try to make the alumni retreat. No promises.

Woo scarves! I tried to learn how to knit a while back, but couldn't get the hang of it. Someday I'll make use of the Tom Baker Dr. Who scarf pattern I have somewhere around here.
What exactly is a tailgate party?
I'm sorry about your kitty. My cat died of FIV 2 years back. I hope your cat doesn't have that and that she gets better soon. Chicken soup?

Dude, I just had chicken soup earlier today :)
I think Lucy will be okay, luckily she has never been introduced to my sister-in-laws two cats, both of which have FIV. I honestly thought she was doing better this morning, compared to earlier in the week, so at least her eye's getting better, even if she was running a higher fever.
I couldn't knit the first 10 times I tried, but suddenly it just clicked, like earlier this week, so maybe, one day, it will click for you too. And I totally want a Dr. Who scarf! Rock! I have a really neat pattern for an alien one, that sometimes looks like an alien, and sometimes looks like just a black scarf, depending on the way you look at it. I need to learn how to knit well for that one though :/

And, a tailgate party is where you sit around before a football game and eat lots of grilled food and drink lots of beer or cheap liquor. At least, that's what I think its supposed to be. It also seems to be good for people to throw around footballs as well. I think I am now inspired to do an anthropological study on this phenomenon...

Brian is anti facebook. He still has aim, but text/calling is still the best way to go (says the weird bald man who is reading over my shoulder.)

And if you text or call this odd bald man, maybe ya'll can make some plans for Saturday.
